Computational Scientist f/m

Next generation jet engines require highly accurate parts, in order to reduce fuel and noise emissions and to increase efficiency. The key lies in a correct geometrical representation of the engine parts and by transferring this accuracy from the virtual world (3D / CAD) to the real world. Thus we are looking for a computational scientist to further develop our 3D CAM software package and its underlying geometrical representations and numerical algorithms.

Your tasks:

  • Work on topics of computer geometry and vision: surface reconstruction, geometrical representation / operations of surfaces and volumes
  • Define mathematical methods and algorithms for surface reconstruction.
  • Creating / Optimizing numerical algorithms with respect to accuracy and speed
  • Evaluation of solutions in terms of feasibility, effort, etc.
  • Creation of programs or program parts in C ++
  • Co-operation with internal and external specialists

Your profile and knowledge:

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or any other applicable area.
  • Experience in solving partial differential equations with discrete methods (Finite elements, spectral methods, smoothed particles, etc).
  • Solid background in optimization techniques, linear algebra and numerical solution of large linear systems.
  • Sound knowledge in differential geometry and parametric surfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience with C++ (including newer standards). Experience in software parallelization with MPI and/or GPU would be a big advantage.
  • Fluent in English. German would be advantageous

Together with a team of experts, you will be working on the cutting edge of technology and make valuable contributions with a direct impact on our products. We offer an exciting working environment in a national and international context with modern employment terms. The Starrag AG lies within five walking minutes from the beautiful Lake Constance and is well connected to public transportation.

The start date can be immediate or by agreement.
