Omya is seeking a visionary Head of Research & Development Services to lead a global team of scientific experts and drive innovation across disciplines such as material science, surface and aqueous chemistry, mineral sciences, and biology. This role is instrumental in shaping Omya’s scientific reputation and future readiness through leadership, strategic collaboration, and impactful research.
As a key member of the R&D Leadership Team, the successful candidate will define and execute a forward-looking strategy, foster a high-performing and agile organization, and position R&D Services as a cornerstone of Omya’s innovation ecosystem.
Strategic Direction and Execution
Develop and implement a global strategy for R&D Services aligned with Omya’s Horizon framework and innovation goals.
Build state-of-the-art scientific capabilities to support cross-functional innovation and manufacturing.
Represent Omya as a thought leader through publications, conferences, and contributions to the corporate patent portfolio.
Position the department and team members as the globally recognized partner and thought leader in the defined scientific areas.
Shape and execute strategic initiatives as part of the global R&D Leadership Team.
People Management & Leadership
Provide strategic direction and leadership to team members also in situations of high uncertainty.
Responsible for the coordination and alignment of the R&D Services groups in all R&D Technology Centers.
Identify and develop future R&D leaders, fostering a culture of agility, excellence, and proactive business partnering.
Promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the global R&D network.
External Engagement & Partnerships
Strengthen relationships with external experts, institutions, and ecosystems relevant to Omya’s scientific focus.
Drive joint initiatives that expand Omya’s innovation capabilities and global reach.
Communication & Reputation
Champion internal and external communication to reinforce Omya’s position as an innovation leader.
Actively contribute to enhancing the company’s visibility and credibility in the scientific community.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Natural Sciences or Engineering; MBA or equivalent commercial background is a plus
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in people management
Proven global leadership and operational management experience in technical/R&D settings
Broad scientific expertise across multiple R&D disciplines
International work experience and willingness to travel frequently
Fluent in English and the local language; additional languages are a plus
